Flamethrower craze sparks fresh concern
The highly dangerous craze of creating homemade flamethrowers from lighted Baygon spray has surfaced again.
Several youths were photographed on the BermyNet and BlackAndCoke websites shooting flames several feet into the air at the recent Cyclone DJ clash at Kindley Field.
The Police and Fire Services are set to release a statement about the dangers of lighting the highly explosive spray.
Two years ago they issued a warning when a youth was seen on the BermyNet website trying a similar stunt at Dandy Town.
Fire chiefs then warned that indiscriminate use of Baygon could lead to people blowing themselves up and that two people had been burned severely from accidentally lighting Baygon.
A can of Baygon had exploded with such force during a fumigation it caused cracks in the walls of the house.
The warning label on the cans clearly state they should not be exposed to temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius or held near or sprayed near flames.
Despite the previous public warnings about the habit, BermyNet website owner Brenton Richardson said he was not planning to remove the pictures.
"I don't think there is any reason to take them down."
Asked if he was worried about accidents he said: "I don't really have an opinion. I think it is a cultural thing to the music, what these young people do with it."
