No invite to EU overseas territory conference
The Bermuda Government is investigating after it was not invited to attend a meeting of the European Union Overseas Countries and Territories EU meeting in Tahiti, French Polynesia this week.
The conference looked at the economy, development and relations between the overseas territories and the EU, the issue of introducing the Euro in overseas countries and territories and there was a debate on EU tax measures.
Dating back to 1957, the EEC created ?the association of the overseas countries and territories? to promote the economic and social development of the countries and territories and to establish close economic relations between them and the Community.
There are 21 OCT scattered around the globe of which twelve are British Overseas Countries and Territories. A website report by MercoPress covering Falklands and South Atlantic news said Bermuda was not included at its own request.
However Bermuda Government spokeswoman Beverle Lottimore said Bermuda had not been invited. She said: ?We don?t go to everything we are invited to and we are not invited to everything.?
But she said Government was now looking into the matter.
