Prison officer stabbed at Westgate
A prison officer was stabbed with a sharpened toothbrush at Westgate on Wednesday. It is understood the incident involved Lorenzo Robinson who was found not guilty on account of his insanity after being accused of attempting to murder American visitor Scott Jable on Front Street in 2002.
But Robinson, a paranoid schizophrenic who believed he was attacking Mr. Jable after hearing voices from Osama Bin Laden, he has been held ever since after being deemed a danger to the public. Prison Commissioner Hubert Dean said Robinson had been moved out of a secure unit but had stopped taking his medication at the time of the attack. He said: ?When you stop taking your medication these things happen.? Mr. Dean said he believed Robinson had sharpened the toothbrush by rubbing it on the floor or on walls. The officer was struck high in the back but the weapon had scarcely pierced the skin. Asked if the attacker would be charged Mr. Dean said: ?We are not looking to do anything serious but the fact that he did the assault means we have to go through the process.? He said prison officers accepted Robinson was different from others who came in and just wanted to hurt a prison officer.
