Seniors thanked for their efforts at Premier?s tea party
The Botanical Gardens became a sea of seniors for the Premier?s annual tea party yesterday.
Officials estimated more than 1,000 over-65s people flocked to Paget for afternoon tea and laidback live entertainment.
The attendance was more than organisers expected ? and 50 extra tables had to be brought in to cater for the high demand.
As Premier Alex Scott moved from table to table chatting to guests, his wife Olga said the day had proved a huge success.
?There is a wonderful atmosphere,? she told ?We are really excited about the number of people that have attended and we trust that everyone has enjoyed themselves.?
She also thanked the volunteers who came out in force.
Yola Smith, from Devonshire, said she has been coming to the event for a decade.
?I?ve been up dancing,? she added. ?I love to dance.?
Carrie Bascome, from Pembroke, said: ?Everyone is having a wonderful time. It?s nice for the seniors to get out of the house.?
And mother-of-twelve Ruby Sampson, 87, from Shelly Bay, said she was having a lovely afternoon.
The former glamorous granny competition winner, wearing her banner and tiara with pride yesterday, added: ?This is a nice way to treat the seniors.?
Yesterday was the 24th seniors? tea party, an event set up to thank the older generation for their contributions to the community over the years.
