Warwick man handed six-month sentence

A man with a litany of driving offences dating back to 2002 was handed a six-month prison sentence in Magistrates? Court yesterday.

Nakai Kenneth Greene, 22, of Pearman Hill in Warwick, pleaded guilty to $6,400 worth of violations, including driving a motorcycle while disqualified on two occasions and a host of other more minor infractions.

Questioned by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner over his continual failure to appear in court, Greene said he had merely forgotten his numerous court dates and apologised.

?You have absolutely no respect for the mandates of this court,? Mr. Warner said.

?Do you honestly think you can come here after all this time and with all these offences and merely apologise? Do you think this is some kind of monkey show?

?I?m going to give you something to let you know how serious we are.?

Greene was sentenced to six months imprisonment and ordered to pay the fines immediately ? with the threat of an additional three months in jail if he failed to do so.
