<Bt-3z39>Weekend tournament's a Breeze for island's lacrosse enthusiasts

TEAM Bermuda are out to avenge a humiliating loss at the hands of Team Canada and Team USA in the Bermuda Lacrosse Clubs’ annual Tri Nations Tournament this weekend.More than 30 of the island’s finest lacrosse enthusiasts will converge on Sea Breeze Oval, the home of Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club, for the tournament.

Last year saw Bermuda come agonisingly close to defeating Team USA but it was a classic case of ‘always the bridesmaid but never the bride’.

The road leading up to the this weekend’s event, the ‘Round de Rock Tournament’, has seen the players getting ready to bring their ‘A’ game with the newly-formed indoor league

Game 1<$> saw the most intense action of the season so far with the ‘Bones Brigade’ making a fantastic second-half comeback to tie the game with the Money Shots at 11 before the buzzer sounded.

This game was full of great defence and the type of bone-crushing hits we’ve come to expect in Bermuda lacrosse. Michael Totman controlled the interior for Money Shots’ defence while the Bones played an aggressive double-team style that kept the shots on the perimeter.

Captain Adam Szakmary led his squad with four goals while rookie Evan Schemenaur had three in the comeback. The Money Shots took it to the bank in sudden death overtime with a game-ending rocket from Bryan Bumstead through superstar goalie Ernie Theriault’s legs, winning 12-11.

In Game 2>fans were treated to the fancy stick work of Ernie Theriault on offence as he led his team to a 17-9 victory with nine goals and two assists.

The Northrox were in control of the Hammerheads right from the opening face-off. The dynamic duo of John Hecksher and Andrew Baron combined for seven goals and four assists and demonstrated they haven’t lost a step from their long gone college glory days of lacrosse.

The Hammerheads, still searching for their first win, were led by the steady play of Barry Lohan and James Robinson with with goals apiece. Rich Schneider had 65 saves in net in his first action of the season.
