Woman admits traffic offences
A woman who admitted a string of traffic offences was handed $2,150 in fines at Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Denelle Saunders, of Happy Valley Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to riding an unlicensed motorbike, not having a driving licence, and driving while impaired on Malabar Road, Sandys, on July 1.
Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney told Magistrates' Court that officers stopped Saunders at 1.47 a.m. on that date, and noticed she had bloodshot eyes and smelt of alcohol. He said the 30-year-old told Police: "Yes, we were drinking and we all got drunk."
Tests showed that Saunders, who works for the Dockyard Marina Company, had 137 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood when the legal limit is 80. Senior Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo told her she had until September 15 to pay her fines, and must spend 100 days in prison if she defaults on them.
