ALABAMA CAUGHT DRINKING ON SQUARE CTS Alabama caught drinking on square A drunk told a Magistrate this week of his surprise when a young female Police officer caught him drinking in the street.
Magistrates' Court heard Police spoke to Alvin (Alabama) Anderson at 11.15 a.m. on September 7 in Customs House Square, St. George's, and warned him it was illegal to drink alcohol in a public place.
Anderson, 58, who was carrying a brown paper bag, assured the officers he would not be drinking.
Junior Crown counsel Veronica Daley said the officers then saw Anderson walk off and take two drinks from a bottle of rum in the brown paper bag.
She said Anderson, who lives with his mother in Old Wells Lane, St. George's, at first denied he had been drinking.
Anderson, who pleaded guilty to being drunk and incapable in a public street, told Senior Magistrate Will Francis: "A lady approached me and saw the bottle in my hand. She said as Mrs. Stephens went inside to get the last of Jacobs' clothes, the defendant's demeanour changed and she started banging on the blind until slates were falling from the roof.
Jacobs, now of Valley Heights, Devonshire, admitted wilfully and unlawfully damaging property.
She claimed in court that Mrs. Stephens "provoked me and I went too far. She was throwing my stuff out on the porch and wouldn't let me come inside to get my things''.
