Bermuda told: Get switched on for Christmas

All Hamilton-based businesses, schools and residences are being called upon to "light up for charity this Christmas''.

Corporation of Hamilton secretary Roger Sherratt yesterday said: "In a special effort to have the city look at its best for the new Millennium and for the last Christmas season of this century, the Corporation of Hamilton is organising a special Light Festival to encourage city businesses, offices, stores, residences and schools to light up their buildings for the Christmas season.'' Special prizes will be awarded to the best buildings in each category of the All A Glow Light Festival with the public responsible for picking the winners.

Project coordinator Gina Hook said: "In order to involve the whole community we are encouraging everyone in Bermuda who comes into Hamilton to vote for which buildings they consider to be the best in each category.

"This is one occasion where literally everyone can vote -- whether you are five years old, or 105.'' Anyone wishing to cast their vote will be able to fill in a voters card which will be available at The Royal Gazette .

Everyone who votes is asked to enter into the Christmas spirit and make a small contribution -- $5 is the suggested amount -- to the Family Resource Network.

Property owners and businesses need to have their buildings lit up by December 3, if possible.

Voting will run from that date until December 21 with the results being announced on December 23.

One special category will be for gateway buildings such as Renaissance Re, American International and the Zurich Centre which are located at the entrances to the city.

Sponsorship from Island Press, Temco Electric and The Complete Office has helped to make the Festival possible, added Mr. Sherratt who directed inquiries to 292-1234, extension 219.
