Man arrested in Chit Chat robbery
Chat Restaurant on Queen Street, Pembroke.
Police responded to a report of a robbery in progress and arrived at the restaurant around 2.40 a.m. to find the suspect detaining one of the managers and apparently intending to open the safe.
On seeing the officers, the 23-year-old man attempted to hide but was quickly arrested. He was found to have the victim's cell phone and keys.
Officers also retrieved a paper bag that the man had allegedly tried to conceal during the ordeal, and found that it contained nine paper twists each containing a white rock-like substance.
The man was taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained.
TRAFFIC DELAYS AT BRIDGE TFC GVT Traffic delays at bridge The Ministry of Works & Engineering will be continuing repairs on Long Bird Bridge resulting in one-lane traffic over the bridge on Monday and Tuesday.
Workmen will be applying a skid-resistant coating to the new metal decking that was installed on the bridge in December.
A spokesman for the Ministry explained that the skid-resistant coating would be applied on Monday and Tuesday, weather allowing.
Work will begin at 9 a.m. and will require the closure of the lane out of St.
George's on Monday and the lane into St. George's on Tuesday. Traffic lights will be used to control the traffic flow.
The spokesman apologised on behalf of the Ministry for any inconvenience to motorists and advised persons travelling to the Airport that they may experience delays.
PASSENGER ROBBED CRM Passenger robbed A pillion passenger was robbed at Barnes Corner, Southampton as he was riding on a motorcycle travelling west on Middle Road.
The incident happened around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday when he was approached by a male on another cycle.
The man, who is known to the complainant, allegedly snatched a black onyx ring from his finger as well as a pair of gold chains from his neck.

Twenty-five-year-old Iain Paul, of Second Avenue, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to impaired driving.
Police found Paul lying on South Road, Paget next to his cycle with abrasions to his face and hands on December 11.
When an ambulance arrived, Paul was asked if he needed help but replied: "No, I just want to go home.'' Paul admitted he had been drinking and was taken to Hamilton Police Station where an aclo-analyer test showed a blood alcohol level of 233 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis fined him $500 and banned him from driving all motor vehicles for 12 months.
