Fireworks set brush fire at White's Island
A fireworks display at Saturday's Christmas Boat Parade is believed to be the cause of a fire on White's Island.
A Police spokesman said that Marine Police and Bermuda Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a reported fire on White's Island at around 9.10 p.m.
"It appears that the fire was ignited as a result of sparks from the fireworks display," said the spokesman.
Take note of Geminid meteor showers
The Geminids are coming.
Stargazers are in for a treat if clear skies are present tonight.
The annual Geminid meteor shower is expected to provide a spectacular light show above us.
The shooting stars can be seen from any vantage point without a telescope, but are best viewed away from outside lights and street lamps.
Eddie McGonagle of the Bermuda Astronomical Society said: "Unfortunately, November's Leonid meteors failed to meet viewers' expectations this year but the Geminids are more predictable.
"We are hoping that Castor and Pollux the Zodiac twins in Gemini, will give Bermuda a rousing send-off with a fireworks display to end the 400th anniversary year.
"Most meteor showers originate from the tail of a comet but on this occasion, bright, slow-moving yellowish streaks are associated with the near-Earth asteroid Phaethon, discovered in 1983.
"Previous collisions with another asteroid probably caused the release of what we now see as the Geminids."
The Geminids should be visible from midnight.
