Thousands lose power after Belco engine malfunctions
Around 6,000 homes and businesses in the western parishes suffered a power outage yesterday when a Belco engine tripped at 8.27 a.m.
All customers living west of the Belmont area were affected by the problem within the east power station at Belco's Pembroke headquarters.
Electricity had been restored to all customers by 10.01 a.m., according to Belco spokeswoman Susan McGrath-Smith.
She added: "An investigation is ongoing into exactly what caused the engine to trip to ensure it doesn't happen again."
Fuel prices increase
The Ministry of Finance has announced increases to the price of gasoline, diesel fuel and kerosene.
As of Friday April 16 the price of gasoline has increased by 1.8 cents per litre making the maximum price for gas 186.10 cents per litre.
Diesel fuel has increased by 3.1 cents per litre bringing the maximum retail price up to 165.00 cents per litre.
And kerosene saw the biggest increase at 137.70 cents per litre, an increase of 3.4 cents a litre.
CoH offices closed this morning
Corporation of Hamilton offices will be closed on Monday morning due to a staff meeting.
Offices in City Hall, the Ports Department and Works Depot will be closed between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
A Corporation spokeswoman said the meeting was about "the launch of the City summer schedule".
"The Corporation of Hamilton apologies for any inconvenience to the public," she said.
Details on summer events will be unveiled to the public on Tuesday.
Summer Events in the City launches tomorrow
The Corporation of Hamilton invite members of the public to attend the Summer Events in the City launch at City Hall on Tuesday, April 20.
"As we prepare for summer activities in the city we felt it would be great to let the public know officially about all the free, fun, family entertainment that will be taking place in Hamilton during the summer," said Mayor of Hamilton Charles Gosling.
"We are also going to take the opportunity to launch the new City brand.
"We have a bright bold look that will showcase our beautiful city. I look forward to welcoming everyone to City Hall on Tuesday afternoon."
The event starts at 12.30 p.m. Light refreshments will be available throughout the proceedings.
Video games stolen in a burglary
A burglar stole a Nintendo Wii video game system and two Wii games from a home in Barrack Hill, St. George's on Thursday.
The break-in occurred sometime between 8.30 a.m and 7.40 p.m while the home was unoccupied.
Police are investigating.
