Cyclist arrested on suspicion of impaired riding

A man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on Sunday after losing control of his cycle while being followed by the Police.

The rider, a 51-year-old Sandys parish man, was seen by Police driving west on St. David's Road at around 3.35 a.m. with his lights off.

Police signalled for the rider to pull over, but instead of stopping the driver continued through the round-a-bout and over the Swing Bridge onto Mullet Bay Road before he lost control of his vehicle.

The rider was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of facial injuries.

In total, Police reported four suspicion of impaired driving arrests last weekend, along with 20 traffic accidents, seven of which resulted in injury.


Two residential burglaries on Saturday

Two burglaries were reported on Saturday in the central parishes.

A grey Dell laptop and a black PSP video game system were stolen between 9.30 p.m. on Friday and 6.30 p.m. on Saturday from a Ashwood Lane, Smith's Parish home while it was empty.

In Pembroke, a Sony Laptop, two Nokia cell phones, cash and personal items were stolen between 5 p.m. and 10.45 p.m. from a Middle Terrace home.

According to the Police, seven burglaries were reported over the weekend Island-wide.


Man robbed at Mangrove Bay

A Warwick man handed over his money after two people approached him and threatened him with a blunt object on Mangrove Bay.

The incident, which happened at 10 p.m. on Thursday, did not result in any injuries. The 37-year-old man was walking when he was approached by two unknown men on a grey motorcycle. The passenger demanded money and brandished a small blunt object. After being handed money the two thieves sped off.

The main suspect is described as a dark skinned male of thick build, approximately 6'2" tall weighing around 200 pounds and wearing dark blue jean shorts, a dark coloured shirt and a black helmet. The other suspect is described as approximately 6'2" tall of slim build wearing light grey shorts, blue/grey shirt and a black helmet. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.


Computer stolen from BIOS

A laptop was stolen from the Bermuda Biological Station during Thursday night. Police were called to the St. George's facility early on Friday morning and told an unknown culprit broke into the library and stole a black Dell laptop computer.


Theft from house

Cash was stolen from a Spanish Heights Road residence while owners were at work.

Police were called to the Smith's Parish residence on Thursday evening and told an unknown culprit gained entry into their home while it was unoccupied and left with cash.


Missing girl is found

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating 17-year-old Chantice Butterfield. She was found safe and well on Friday.


Vehicle onto shore

Police on patrol watched a 69-year-old Sandys parish man lose control of his car and drive through a wall on Saturday morning. The man was driving west on Mangrove Bay Road near Watford Bridge when the accident occurred. The vehicle drove through a wall, stopping on the shore at Mangrove Bay.

While the driver told EMTs that he was not injured, the wall and the front end of the car were damaged.


Car in the harbour

A 53-year-old Warwick man, drove his car into Hamilton Harbour early on Saturday morning, but both he and his passenger escaped without injury.

Police arrived on the scene at around 3.50 a.m. after the man, who was driving west on Harbour Road, in Paget, lost control of his vehicle, collided with a wall, and ended up overboard. Both the driver and his passenger, a 28-year-old Warwick woman, managed to climb to safety.
