Homeless trespasser warned by magistrate
A man was found on a grocery chain's property just two days after he received a letter of no trespass, a court heard.
Floyd Spence, 38, told Plea Court he was only talking to his cousin and didn't realise the car park belonged to the store. He pleaded guilty to trespass.
Crown counsel Brett Webber said Spence was arrested outside the Maximart store in Sandys on July 23.
He said Spence was served with a letter of no trespass at Arnolds Supermarket in Somerset on July 21.
The letter explained he was banned from all the company's stores Island-wide.
However, two days later Police officers were called to the Maximart store.
Mr. Webber said: "At 4.20 p.m. on July 23 officers received a report of trespass at 42 Middle Road, Sandys.
"The general manager informed officers he had a registered letter which banned Floyd Spence and showed them a copy.
"Officers tried to locate the defendant but he had already left.
"They then saw him walking past the entrance towards the parking lot. Officers informed him of the letter and that he had committed the offence of trespass."
Mr. Webber said Spence told them: "I had no idea the parking lot was part of the business."
He said of Spence's letter of no trespass: "I believe he was caught stealing in Arnold's Market."
Spence, of no fixed abode, told the court: "I was just talking to my cousin and they came down and I was arrested. I didn't know it was part of the property.
"I was just talking to people at the (neighbouring) yellow house. I didn't trouble nobody or do anything wrong."
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said: "The people don't want you near their property so just keep away.
"I accept your guilty plea and don't propose any further sentence. Just don't come back again."
