Second suspect arrested in airport departure lounge
A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder as he tried to board a British Airways flight heading to London.
The man was taken into custody in the departure lounge at L.F. Wade International Airport at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police have confirmed he was wanted in connection with the murder of Raymond Troy (Yankee) Rawlins and the attempted murder of Prince Edness.
A Police spokesman said: "A 21-year-old male from Pembroke was arrested by detectives from the Serious Crime Unit at 8 p.m. on Wednesday August 11, in respect of the murder of Raymond Rawlins on August 9 and the attempted murder of Prince Edness on August 6.
"He was attempting to board a British Airways flight to the United Kingdom. He remains in Police custody while inquiries continue."
Sallie Singleton, spokeswoman for British Airways, also confirmed the arrest and said: "The gentleman in question was apprehended by the Bermuda Police Service in the departure lounge at the L.F. Wade International Airport.
"His bags had gone through and were taken off the aircraft. The aircraft did have a 27-minute delay but it was not due to the incident, it was due to a broken luggage belt."
Mr. Rawlins was killed in a hail of bullets inside the door of the Spinning Wheel nightclub on Court Street early on Monday morning.
Thirty minutes earlier, Julian Washington was shot in the parking lot of the Mid-Atlantic Boat Club on North Shore, Devonshire.
Mr. Edness was shot in the Court Street area on August 6 and was released from hospital yesterday after spending a week in the Intensive Care Unit.
Police have said the shootings were gang-related.
