Tender boat finally refloated after six days on the rocks

Heave-Ho! MV Bermudian is pictured on the rocks in St. George's late last week, where she came to rest after breaking free from her moorings during Hurricane Igor. She was finally refloated on Saturday and then towed to Dockyard for inspection.

The Government tender Bermudian was refloated this weekend after running aground during Hurricane Igor.

A Bermuda Maritime Radio spokesman said the vessel was off the rocks on Saturday at 12.30 p.m. — and toed to Dockyard by the Government tugboat Faithful.

The Bermudian became lodged near Wellington Slip Road in St. George's last Sunday after breaking loose from its storm moorings.

The Department of Marine and Ports attempted to float the vessel but couldn't dislodge it on Thursday. They launched an investigation into how the vessel broke loose, with some sources in the marine industry saying the chain holding the ferry in place was too thin.

The Bermudian has been used to ferry cruise ship passengers between the cruise ship Veendam and the Town of St. George. While it is out of service an alternative tender service may have to be arranged.

Kenneth Bascome, Mayor of St. George, said: "It was a very unfortunate incident and I am just hoping it can be put back in service for the benefit of the community of St. George".
