Twelve roles for Bermudian actor in new Toronto stage play
Bermudian actor Daren Herbert, who was in the award-winning film 'Dream Girls', is to appear on the Toronto stage in a new musical.
Mr. Herbert will play 12 different roles in the Canadian premiere of 'The Toxic Avenger'.
The musical, based on Lloyd Kaufman's 1985 low-budget, classic cult film by the same name, is about a New Jersey dweeb who emerges from a vat of radioactive waste as a seven-foot mutant to wreak "green" havoc on his enemies.
It has been winning fans across North America the New York Post called it "hysterically funny" while Time Out called it a "rock and roll romp".
It's Canada premiere takes place on Halloween night and features music from Bon Jovi's David Bryan.
Mr. Herbert will star alongside Tony Award winner Louise Pitre.
The 33-year-old has been steadily building his acting career. Apart from 'Dream Girls' he appeared in popular television shows 'Kyle XY' and 'Smallville' and numerous US commercials.
Before leaving Bermuda's shores to pursue his love for drama, he was involved in Waterspout Theatre's 'Romeo and Juliet' and The Company's 'Fack Bye!'.
He has a Master's degree in fine arts, acting from the University of California, Irvine, and a bachelor's degree in fine arts, theatre, from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia.
He is also a co-founder of Jakoma Entertainment, an organisation that mainly provides and trains models for the Bermuda market and fashion shows.
