Reluctance to report crime is a problem say Police

The Police have highlighted the problem they face of victims of crime refusing to make formal complaints.

A spokesman reported yesterday how they received news of a robbery at around 7.10 p.m on Monday.

"It appears that the victim, an 18-year-old Devonshire man, was riding his motorcycle in the Tucker's Point, St. George's area when he stopped to speak with a female standing at the side of the road," said a spokesman.

"While speaking to her, two unknown young black men drove up in a white truck, assaulted the victim, put his bike in the back of the truck and made good their escape. However, the Devonshire man subsequently recovered his cycle and requested no further Police action.

"This incident illustrates the challenges faced by Police when a crime has taken place and the victim is reluctant to follow through by making a formal complaint."
