Sandys man charged with weekend shooting
A man has been charged with attempted murder over the shooting of 23-year-old Nathan Darrell near his Sandys home on Saturday.
Quincy Brangman, 31, also from Sandys, denies the charge, plus a further charge of using a firearm to commit an indictable offence.
Mr. Darrell, a striker with the Ireland Rangers football team, remains in hospital on a general ward in stable condition after the incident around 2.15 a.m. near his residence in Kitchener Close. Prosecutor Cindy Clarke told the court Mr. Darrell was shot three times while he was in a vehicle and "is fortunate not to have lost his life".
Brangman was not required to enter a plea because the case must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.
Ms Clarke objected to him being given bail.
When asked by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner if he had a lawyer or required the assistance of the duty counsel, Brangman replied: "I don't need no lawyer."
Mr. Warner remanded him into custody pending an administrative hearing at Magistrates' Court on March 2.
