Still on the rocks
The Bermudian remained on the rocks yesterday as efforts to return the vessel to deep water continued.
The Government tender, which had been used over the summer to ferry visitors between the Veendam and the Town of St. George's was blown onto the rocks near Wellington Slip after it broke from its mooring on Sunday.
On Thursday Marine and Ports workers were able to pull the vessel five feet towards deep water, but had to stop a few feet short.
Following the attempt, a Marine and Ports spokesperson said that they were looking at using air bags to help move the vessel.
They also intend to send divers to the site to investigate damage, and determine if any excavation will be needed to free the ship.
While officials were not able to comment on any progress yesterday before press time, people looking on said that steel skids may have been placed to help move the ship.
The Royal Gazette understands that it may be several days before the ship can be removed from the rocks and taken to a dry dock for any repairs.
