Suspended sentence for burglar
A trespasser who admitted entering a home to eat food received a three year suspended jail sentence in Magistrates' Court.
Wayne George Tyrell, 34, of no fixed address and an admitted heroin addict, received the sentence, suspended for 24 months, after pleading guilty to being found in an Ewing Street, Pembroke, home.
On April 26, Tyrell entered the home to help himself to oranges and bread. The court heard his cousin called Police after discovering him at the residence.
The complainant then attempted to restrain Tyrell until officers arrived but he ran away. It also came to light that Tyrell had been in court for trespassing at the home on two occasions.
"I wasn't stealing, I just wanted to get something to eat. I just wanted some oranges and bread," he explained to Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.
Additionally, Tyrell claimed his aunt, who lives at the home, gave him permission to enter to eat food.
Mr. Warner contended: "It is clear that these people don't want you in there and you keep going back there. You've got to stop this foolishness," before handing down the sentence.
