A telethon for earthquake-stricken Haiti raised more than $100,000.

'To Haiti With Love' was held March 8 and hosted by the West Indian Association.

Members of the Civil Service raised $6,000 for the cause an amount matched by Premier Ewart Brown and his wife Wanda.

"From the Premier, to the Bermudian residents, to the volunteers, I want to express my heartfelt thanks," said Civil Service head Major Kenneth Dill. "To date, the telethon has raised over $100,000 and the funds will be sent directly to Haiti. There are local organisations that are doing significant work towards Haiti's recovery efforts and Bermuda's contributions will help further their noble efforts."

Mr. Dill, who is also chairman of the telethon organising committee, continued: "In particular, I wish to give a special thanks to the numerous civil servants who either donated or participated by volunteering on the night of the telethon. Their selfless efforts ensured that the evening was a great success; and it is this demonstration of unity that brings pride to the Service."

A Government spokesperson said the funds will be sent directly to Haiti through the Salvation Army and Phillip Rego's Feed My Lambs organisation two local charities helping in rebuilding efforts there.
