Victim was also shot last month – source

The fatal shooting of Gary 'Fingas' Cann was the second attempt on his life in the past six weeks, according to a gang insider.

The source, who cannot be named for reasons of personal safety, said Mr. Cann was a member of the Parkside gang who was targeted in last month's shooting in Middletown.

Mr. Cann, 22, of Pembroke, was killed outside his girlfriend's house in Soundview Road, Sandys, on Tuesday night.

According to the source he was one of two men injured in the shooting in Middletown on November 6.

The Bermuda Police Service would not confirm this last night. After the shooting in the Rubbertree area last month however, they released the following statement:

"Around 6 p.m. Police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of King Street and Middletown Lane in Pembroke. As a result, a 24-year-old Pembroke man and a 31-year-old Devonshire man are being treated at KEMH (King Edward VII Memorial Hospital) for gunshot wounds."

It is thought six shots were fired, with one man hit three times in the chest and the other receiving injuries to his arm and hand. Both were later discharged and Police arrested a 26-year-old man from Pembroke in connection with the incident, which detectives confirmed was gang-related.

Commenting on Mr. Cann's death last night, the source said: "It's the second time he's been targeted."

He added that the suspects were "not necessarily 42nd".

The man said other gangs from across the Island are now teaming up the 42nd Crew as it is thought that Parkside "have gone too far".

"Gangs from both the East End and West End have formed alliances with the 42nd," he said.

"Some of the people who've been shot like Kumi (Harford) and Kenwandee (Robinson), they weren't troublemakers, so it was like they touched things they shouldn't have touched, and it becomes real personal.

"Many believe Parkside have gone too far."
