Centre on Philanthropy hosting two workshops for non-profit sector

Micheal Daigneault

A US expert on governance in the non-profit sector is to meet with executives from Bermuda charities to help them energise their members.Michael Daigneault, a senior governance for BoardSource, said he hop es to help the organisations make a bigger difference in the community, and boost fundraising efforts as a result.Mr Daigneault, who has worked with clients including Target and Time Warner, will take part in several sessions in Bermuda, meeting with executive directors and facilitators for board chairs.“One of the things I wanted to do is talk to the Executive Directors because they have a crucial role. In some organisations, they play the crucial role,” he said.“My opportunity here is to help encourage the executive directors to really look at their own skills, their processes, the way they act and see if they are ways they can help their boards be more effective.”He said that if board members are more energised, they are more likely to go above and beyond the call of duty, spending more time “fund raising, friend raising and being active in the community”.The training sessions begin today (January 18) with ‘Training for Board Chairs’ starting at 9am at The Centre on Philanthropy and ‘Mindful Governance: Contemporary Trends for Nonprofit Leaders’ starting at 5.30pm at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.Tomorrow, Mr Daigneault will head the workshop ‘Constructively Partnering with Your Board: A Governance Workshop for Chief Executive Officers’ and ‘Governance as Leadership: A New Way to Lead your Nonprofit Organisation’ will be held on the 21st. Both sessions will begin at the Centre on Philanthropy at 9am.
