Ferry cuts

The ferry service between Rockaway and Hamilton will be reduced this summer, Transport Minister Derrick Burgess announced yesterday.Five daily trips will take place instead of eight, said the Minister, while the supplementary minibus service to Rockaway will be axed from April 1.His announcement came shortly after it was revealed the Transport Ministry was given a public transportation budget of $19.6 million for 2012/13, $1.2 million less than its revised estimate for 2011/12.“In our efforts to contain costs whilst still providing a comprehensive commuter service from Rockaway, we have reduced the number of trips from eight to five,” said Mr Burgess in a statement.“These five trips historically see the largest number of passengers so the reduction in trips should have very little impact on those commuting back and forth from Hamilton.”Ferries will leave Hamilton at 6.50am, 7.50am, 4.10pm, 5.20pm and 6.20pm; leave Rockaway at 7.20am, 8.20am, 4.30pm, 5.45pm and 6.45pm; and arrive in Hamilton at 7.45am, 8.45am, 5.20pm, 6.10pm and 7.10pm.
