Super Bowl tailgate party returns

Members of the Ex-Artillerymen’s Association are gearing up for the second annual Super Bowl Tailgate Party on Sunday, February 3.The event which started as a fundraiser to boost the club’s Benevolent Fund, is geared for the entire family unit.Club President Earlston Woodley said: “Its all part of a plan to bring family oriented events back to build stronger bridges to the community through their entertainment schedule.”The fund, which has been in existence for the past 20 years, is used to assist the club’s 100 members with financial assistance in hard times.Entertainment Committee Chairman Henry Smith said: “The first Tailgate Party was a big success, up until last year, I had never even heard of this type of Super Bowl party.“Everyone had a good time tasting all the food that was made on location. We have a food court in the middle of the club parking lot, and patrons pay a fee to park their cars and set up BBQs to cook up their specialities.“Then we share it around to see whose treats taste the best,” said Mr Smith. “We had a great time last time and there were lots of children, and this year we’re hoping to attract even more for good clean fun on Super Bowl Sunday.”“For $20 you get a reserved spot and the funds are used to help our members when they are down and out. It’s not a lot of money but we try to do something to help them buy groceries, medication or help with pay their light bills.”At last check there were 25 parking spots with only a few left for the upcoming event, the $20 fee also includes five drink tickets. And organisers also issued a challenge: “If you can cook, come show off your talent and help support senior members at the same time.”For reservations or more information on the Ex-Artillerymen’s Association’s Super Bowl Tailgate Party call 705-6455 or e-mail lyjeja@ibl.bm.
