Reward offered for information regarding Rudy Smith's disappearance

Authorities are offering a monetary award to anyone with information about Rudy Smith's "disappearance”, Public Safety Minister Michael Dunkley announced this afternoon.Police have been searching for Mr Smith since he disappeared just over a year ago.CrimeStoppers International has been given a budget of up to $100,000 for any information, the organisation's president Alexander MacDonald said.He added that he was unable to state the exact amount of the reward because it would depend on the quality of the information received. The two were joined by Mr Smith's mother, Madeline Rampersad, and Pembroke MPs Glen Smith and Michael Weeks. They agreed there must be members of the public who must know what caused Mr Smith to disappear last year.Said Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro: “This has been one of the more challenging cases we have had to deal with in recent times. I can't say much about the investigation itself. But we do know there are people out there who know what happened to Mr Smith. The whole purpose of this is to get them to come forward.”He urged residents to “take control of their community” and call the independent and anonymous, CrimeStoppers hotline - 800-8477.Mr Dunkley warned residents to exercise care on Bermuda's roads and in the water over the Cup Match holiday.Police and other emergency services will remain vigilant over that period, he said.Mr Dunkley added: “Lastly, make sure you have a good view of the ferry back to Somerset on Friday evening, as it will be carrying the Cup.“Even though my colleague Shawn Crockwell, the Minister of Tourism and Transport, is a St George's fan, I do not anticipate any unexpected ferry work stoppages.“Happy Cup Match to all, and above all, be safe.”
