Man threatened landlord with knife

A Warwick man has admitted threatening his landlord with a kitchen knife in a dispute over a PlayStation Two video-game console.

Thirty-five year-old Dimetri Robinson, of Spring Hill, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to having a bladed article in a public place and using it in a threatening manner against his landlord, Edwin Lee, from whom he had been renting a room with his wife since April last year.

The dispute arose on January 6 after Mr Lee returned home to find his PlayStation 2 missing from his room, prosecutor Susan Mulligan told the court.

Mr Lee then approached Robinson, who said that the video-game console was in the downstairs apartment.

Shortly after, the two got into an argument with Mr Lee accusing Robinson having removed the game from his room without his permission.

The argument escalated and police were called.

The PlayStation 2 was then returned to Mr Lee.

Later that day, however, the two got into another argument with Mr Lee telling Robinson to get out of the house.

Robinson then returned to his room and came back with a seven and a half inch kitchen knife, Ms Mulligan told the court.

Robinson approached Mr Lee then pointed the knife at him in a threatening manner, shouting: “I ain’t going nowhere. You ain’t kicking me out.”

Concerned for his safety, Mr Lee then went to a neighbour’s house and called the police.

Police returned to the residence where they saw Robinson standing in the road.

As police approached him, Robinson went to sit on a wall near the roadside where officers observed him reach into his pants pocket and pull out a large black and silver knife and drop it behind the wall he was sitting on.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a Social Inquiry Report, releasing Robinson on $1000 bail.

Robinson was also ordered to immediately report to court services, stay away from the Spring Hill residence and to not interfere with Mr Lee.

Robinson will be sentenced on March 11.
