Bermudian Called to the Bar
Bermudian Christal Payne has been Called to the Bar, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
She was a summer student at the Attorney-General’s Chambers since 2009 and started her training there in 2014.
During her further education in Great Britain, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economic and Social Studies in Cardiff, Wales, before attending the College of Law in Birmingham, England, until 2013.
“I owe everything to my mama [Cathy]. She has helped me financially and she has given me moral support.”
Ms Payne was flanked by family members, friends and colleagues as she headed into Supreme Court for her ceremony. Asked what it meant to have reached this stage in her career, Ms Payne said: “This means the world to me. I’ve wanting this since I was a kid. I don’t know why, maybe somebody brainwashed me, hopefully they will tell me who it was today. I’ve just always been saying it.
“I would like to be a Government lawyer. If not, I am just going to work for the people.”
