Cup Match streaker released without charge

A 31-year-old visitor who streaked across the Somerset Cricket Club field on Friday has been released without charge.

According to a police spokesman, officers responded to a “a male spectator running across the field of Somerset Cricket Club in a half-dressed state” at 4.10pm.

He added that the man was detained, removed from the grounds, taken to Hamilton Police Station and “later released without charge”.

Speaking to The Royal Gazette during the Non-Mariners Race celebrations on Sunday, Matt Parker, from Australia, identified himself as the streaker.

“Yeah, I got arrested for it,” he said, adding that his semi-naked sprint had been the result of losing a bet.
