Forum on aftermath of 1977 riots
A public forum tonight with Alex Scott, the former premier, will explore the Pitt Commission that investigated Bermuda's inequalities in the wake of riots that gripped the island in 1977.
Mr Scott was one of the members of the Royal Commission, established in early 1978 and chaired by Lord Pitt, with public hearings in April and May that year.
Its recommendations highlighted the island's entrenched disparity in economic opportunities and access to jobs between black and white Bermudians.
Tonight's forum examines the progress made in the 41 years since. Panellists include Rolfe Commissiong, a government MP, and former MP John Barritt, as well as Phil Perinchief, a former attorney-general.
Other members are LaVerne Furbert, a trade union official and former Progressive Labour Party senator, and statistician Cordell Riley.
It will be moderated by Rick Richardson.
The forum will be held from 6pm at the Gordon Hall in the Bermuda Industrial Union headquarters in Hamilton.
