The woman who has led Family Centre since it started is to step down today as the charity celebrates its 30th anniversary.Martha Dismont, who will hand over to new executive director Sandy DeSilva, said the organisation had been a labour of love.Ms Dismont, who founded the charity, added: “The joy I see on the faces of children and families finding solutions to their challenges are priceless treasures that has kept me motivated for many years as executive director of Family Centre. “It has been my distinct pleasure to be of service to this community, and I owe a debt of gratitude to individuals in the donor community, my peers, and our board and staff, who have supported me in the position that I was granted. I am indeed grateful.”Ms Dismont said she would sit on the charity’s advisory council and intended to continue to campaign for children and vulnerable people.She also praised her successor for the professional ability and heart she had brought to the organisation.Ms Dismont said: “Dr DeSilva has been the director of services at Family Centre for the past 11 years and I am sure she will take the organisation to even greater heights. I am truly excited for what the future will bring for the organisation under her capable care.”Justin Freisenbruch, the Family Centre board chairman, said: “Martha has steered the organisation in a progressive and enlightened manner and the organisation has grown from strength to strength under her leadership. “Bermuda’s families and children have benefited tremendously through her stewardship of their care through ensuring organisational best practices and the delivery of critical therapeutic programmes and services.“On behalf of the board, we wish Martha continued success in her future plans and we look forward to calling on her expertise from time to time as we navigate the next 30 years at Family Centre.”
