A lawyer at Carey Olsen has been appointed co vice-chairwoman of The Bermuda Society.
Sheba Raza, a corporate lawyers in Carey Olsen's London office, has taken up the role with the organisation that promotes and strengthens business and cultural links between Bermuda, the City of London and other international finance centres.
She has been a board member of the Society since December 2015, and will share her responsibilities as co vice-chairman with George Fergusson, who was Governor of Bermuda from 2012 to 2016.
The newly appointed chairman of The Bermuda Society is Robert Bisset.
Ms Raza said: “It is an honour to be appointed co vice-chair and, together with George and the management committee, I am looking forward to working with the Society's membership and alongside the Bermuda Business Development Authority to support Bermuda's efforts as it navigates its way out of the coronavirus pandemic.”
Carey Olsen is a gold corporate member of The Bermuda Society, providing support from both its London and Bermuda offices.
Michael Hanson, Carey Olsen Bermuda managing partner, said: “We are delighted with Sheba's appointment which coincides with our drive to expand and enhance Bermuda's reputation as one of the pre-eminent offshore jurisdictions. With the disrupted world we now live in, both London and the wider European market are key growth areas for us and we very much appreciate and support the Bermuda Society's work in this regard.”
Ms Raza joined Carey Olsen at the beginning of last month, and is the first Bermuda-qualified lawyer to be based in the firm's London office.
