@$:BYLINE-FRANK:By KYLEHUNTERSports EditorBODY-FRANK:BERMUDA has a new internet sports site ¿ one which features just video of the many sports played on the island. And if the operators of the site ¿ Bermuda Sports Network ¿ have their way this is just the start.BODY-FRANK-2:Lamone Woods, who along with his wife Nicole and his cousin Kevin Mayes own and operate the site (www.bermudasportsnetwork.com), said he hopes that at some point in the future they can run a TVchannel similar to the big American sports channel ESPN."Our vision is to eventually make it the ESPNof Bermuda. They have a successful model and like us they started small ¿ and look at where they are today. It is a major channel," said Woods. In just the last 18 days Bermua Sports Network have had 10,000 hits. "And most people do not know it is there," said Woods."It just shows that Bermuda is ready for something like this. We are all video. For the past three or fours years I have been thinking about starting this and then I met up with my cousin Kevin Mayes who does video. "I started using video myself two years ago. We then got to thinking about launching the site and so far we have been very pleased with it."There are over 50 sports organisations in Bermuda ¿ it is likes the churches here! There are a lot of people involved in all sorts of sports in Bermuda ¿ it is not just football and cricket but also sports like lacrosse, rugby, swimming, volleyball ¿ everything. There are a lot of things going on in Bermuda and we are trying to expose that. A lot of people can't get out to all the sports that are going on so we are bringing it to them over the internet."And then once this takes off we hope to eventually have a 24 hours sports network on TVlike ESPN ¿ that is the final vision and there is no reason why we cannot do it."But the internet is a good place to start because we can dump a lot of our content on there really fast ¿ we can get a good idea of what people want. And right now they seem to really like it. Many sports organisations have called me and asked how they can get on there. They want to showcase their stuff too ¿ everyone wants to do that now. It is a good place to publicise a sport. A lot of athletes do not get the recognition they deserve and now it is their time to shine. We will put them on so they can show their skills and grow a fan base."It is a win-win situation. But the athletes will also have to improve their skills. When you see yourself playing they say the video is the best teacher. When you see your mistakes you know in your mind what you have to change."Woods teaches computer science at the Berkeley Institute while his cousin Kevin Mayes is an IT professional."We use high-end equipment so when you are looking at our site everything is very clear ¿ very professional video. Kevin has also made a few music videos for local artists. So far everyone is loving the site. We are trying to take it to higher and higher heights. Shortly we will be streaming live events."People have been very receptive. For instance at the Round the Island Powerboat Race this summer people came looking for us to be interviewed. No one is running from the camera anymore ¿ they want to be included and want to also talk about their sponsors. It is like they can advertise on ESPN but it is BSN in Bermuda. Many want to thank their sponsors but there are also many who are looking for sponsors and we can help with that ¿ everyone can benefit."Right now the site offers sports highlights and interviews. "We have plans for player profiles as well as league sites for clubs. A lot of clubs do not have websites and we can provide them with a page that they can update. Also recruiters from overseas can check out the site and see the skills of various players. We have had hits from all around the world ¿ we especially get a lot of hits from North America."It has really caught on. People ask if we are like Island Stats but we are completely different ¿ we are all video. We are not competing with Island Stats which is a good model. We show the action ¿ get inside the boat with an on-board camera. We are trying to get people to get to know the athletes. When they see someone talking it gives people an insight as to who that person is."And Woods said they also hoped to be able to cover local teams and athletes competing overseas."We want to get into the situation where we can follow our athletes when they go away to compete ¿ whether it be the cricket team or athletes at the Olympics. We want to show what they are doing. "Our athletes coming up now are becoming more globally competitive and we want to showcase them."
