All-Star soccer festival foiled by wind and rain
forced postponement of the third All-Star Classic at Somerset.
But Bermuda Football Association have not scrapped plans to stage the matches this year and are now looking for a free date near the end of the season, general secretary David Sabir said yesterday.
"We're looking at the end of the season,'' said Sabir. "The season is pretty jammed right now, perhaps we may be better off seeing if we can find a date near the end when there is also a chance of the weather being a little better.
"This event is all about the players and spectators, getting everybody together to celebrate the All-Star players and the chance of that materialising based on the weather was pretty slim.'' The annual event honours the top female, under-21 and senior players in local football, with the First and Second Division players selected by the fans.
Kentoine Jennings of Vasco topped the list and will captain the West while Nakia Smith of Wolves will be the East captain.
"We do have prizes and All-Star uniforms for the players and we think they deserve it,'' Sabir added. "So in that light we intend to still celebrate and honour their selections.
"Everything will remain the same based on player availability. We also think the sponsors should be recognised in regards to their willingness to support this event.''
