Bermuda's J-24 fleet finished what has been described as one their shortest-ever seasons with a prizegiving at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club
Throughout 1994 the fleet was hampered by the loss of three entire series because of bad weather and poor turnout which contributed to the large gaps of inactivity during the summer.
But these setbacks didn't detract from the competitive spirit in the fleet as a fierce battle was waged for top spot among the regular competitors.
Kate Williams won the overall title for the season with her consistent performances throughout the year, beating out Bob McCutcheon and last year's winner Michael Emery.
The future of the fleet still looks promising following a strong showing by newcomer Jonathan Custance-Baker, teamed up with Theresa Chatfield who has returned to the J24s after a season sailing Tornados.
Members and interested parties are reminded that the Bermuda J-24 Class Association will be holing their annual general meeting on Tuesday, January 10.
BOWLING League leaders Pembroke Juniors kept a comfortable grip on first place in the Barritt's Sportsmen's League when they hammered last-placed Young Blood 23-4 in their last outing.
Pembroke had the third high series and game of 2646 and 922, thanks to Dean Lightbourne's top series of 633 and second high game of 233.
Buy and Sell lost some ground in second place when they went down 16-11 to third-placed Sparks. The battle for second place has become tighter after Mini Forwarders also moved up with a 21-6 hammering of Warwick Whites.
Taking the top team game with 959 was some consolation for Buy and Sell who also rolled a 2641 series. Their opponents also finished on the honours list, finishing second with a 2678 series and third with a 908 game.
For Sparks, Reggie Saunders rolled a 610 second high series and 235 top game.
Social Club were the other comfortable winners on the night, thrashing Warwick Reds 21-6 after placing top on the series list with a 2693 as well as rolling a 945 second high game.
Yummy Easton led the Social Club bowlers with a 582 series and 225 game while Dudley Browne supported with a 580 series.
Saturday's schedule: Pembroke Jrs v Sparks; Buy and Sell v Young Blood; Social Club v Warwick Whites; Mini Forwarders v Warwick Reds.
