Coach slams sloppy Red Devils

The Red Devils showed little fire in overcoming Tuff Dogs in a performance coach Scott Morton described as their "worst ever''.

Village scored three times, but missed a penalty and left gaping holes at the back for their Commercial League opponents to exploit.

A clearly upset Morton said afterwards: "We advance to the next round but as far as our play was concerned this was the worst I have ever seen us play.

"As a coach looking from the outside I can see the faults and the positives, but the players themselves need to be more responsible and look at the things they need to work on -- I'm not out there on the field, they are.'' Conversely, Tuff Dogs coach Miguel Depointe was delighted with his team, despite coming out on the wrong end of the scoreline.

"We came out and tried to shut them down in the midfield. We didn't mind if they played in their own third and we tried to put the pressure on them when we thought it was right,'' he said.

"My players have come a long way from a Sunday league team two years ago, to competing against Village today.'' In a match watched by BFA president, Neville Tyrrell, Village took the lead in the 22nd minute when Jarizhino Simmons floated in an inch perfect cross from just inside Dogs' half for Dwight Warren to head into the bottom corner.

But it took them until first-half injury time to double their tally -- Warren making the most of a defensive mix-up to guide the ball over the line.

The outstanding Nathan Brown reduced the arrears in the 52nd minute, slotting home a penalty after he himself had been felled.

But the good work was undone when Damon Wade was allowed to make it 3-1 just minutes later.

Dogs fought hard and forced numerous openings but the game appeared to be all but beyond them when Village were awarded a penalty in the 60th minute. David Thomas struck the ball well but keeper Danny Favia flew high to his left to pull off an excellent stop and prevent Village from securing an even more flattering scoreline.
