Feisty Cougars mean business

Devonshire Cougars have established themselves already as the team to beat in the Daihatsu Second Division after yesterday's 5-0 drubbing of Hamilton Parish at Wellington Oval.

Shawn Smith and Wali Salaam both scored twice while Troy Burgess got the other Cougars goal to send Parish, last season's relegated side, crashing to defeat.

Cougars opened their season last weekend with a 2-1 win over Somerset Eagles, despite having four players sent off.

Yesterday's result leaves them as the only team with maximum points from two matches.

BAA 0, Somerset Eagles 1 BAA's hopes of two straight wins were dashed by Oscar Riley's 47th-minute winner at BAA field, which secured the division's only shock win.

BAA surprised Wolves 4-0 last weekend.

Port Royal 0, Wolves 6 Port Royal felt the backlash of Wolves' loss to BAA by being hammered 6-0 at White Hill field.

Marlon Lindsay, last season's top Second Division scorer with 18 goals, got off the mark for the new season with a hat-trick as Wolves led 3-0 at the half. Casey Burgess gave them the lead in the 24th minute with the first of his two goals before Khari Sharrieff made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute.

Lindsay got his first a minute before the break and Burgess made it 4-0 a minute after the restart.

Lindsay closed out the scoring in fine fashion with strikes in the 82nd and 85th minutes to complete his treble.

Paget 2, Social Club 3 Paget's first game since being saved from extinction at the 11th hour ended in disaster when they had Wayne Tucker sent off and were then beaten by a goal in the last minute of their Second Division match with Social Club at Southampton Oval.

Paget fell behind to a first-half goal from Social Club's Anthony Fubler but came out strongly in the second period to take a 2-1 lead through goals by Jason Smith and Patrick Lee.

Shawn Laws equalised for Social Club and then Randy Spence hit their winner on the stroke of full time after Tucker had been sent off some 10 minutes earlier for his second bookable offence -- a wild swipe at the ball, which the referee deemed to be dangerous.
