Somerset Trojans -- all of them with previous coaching experience in the First Division.

The trio include former Somerset coaches Bernard Brangman and Norbert Simons, along with Andrew Bascome, who has had coaching stints with several other First Division clubs.

Another contender, Donovan Livingston of Vasco, has been linked with the post, although it is rumoured that he is being lobbied by the Portuguese club to take over from coach John Rebello, who retired at the end of last season.

And a fourth person with senior coaching experience at Somerset who could be pursued for is former Bermuda international Larry Hunt.

The Trojans post, which was vacated three weeks ago when Randy Horton officially handed in his resignation, is expected to be filled in the near future although club officials could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Horton said yesterday that the club had planned to meet with him recently but that meeting had to be postponed because he was off the Island.

"All I can say is that I have handed in my resignation and I know that they are actively looking for a replacement. At this time I can only wish the club the best,'' said Horton.

The one-time professional striker said he wasn't ready to comment on his reasons for stepping down.

After hauling Somerset back into the First Division two seasons ago, the club's relegation, after a loss in the final game, the end of this season hurt Horton, although that wasn't believed to be the sole reason for his departure.

He has already stated publicly that his plans to test the political waters as a PLP member in the next general election influenced his decision.

Horton will likely be preoccupied with canvassing and restrict his involvement in sports towards helping the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control and his close friend, BCBC president El James.

At the moment Horton is the driving force behind the two youth leagues as chairman of the Board's Youth Development Committee.
