Kenyans feeling the heat!

Three Kenyan runners competing in Race Weekend have hit upon a surprising problem -- the Bermuda heat.

When back home in Africa, Julius Rotich, Jerad Segera and Levis Momanyi are used to temperatures much higher than the Island is blessed with in January.

But all three are based in Kentucky, USA, where snow and freezing temperatures have been commonplace this winter.

Segera, who will run in tonight's Invitational Mile, said: "At the moment this is too warm for us, because of the cold weather we've been training in in Kentucky.'' Segera, 22, who specialises in the 5K and 10K distances, will be running only his second competitive mile but his target is still to break four minutes. His training partner Levis Momanyi, 24, also running in the mile, has the same aim and he ran 4:03 last July.

Momanyi said: "I don't know how well we'll do, but we can will each other on and we'll be fighting to do our best. We are fighters.'' Rotich, 22, is likely to be one of the main contenders in tomorrow's 10K and has a personal best of 28:09, which he achieved in 1996.

"I can run 28 when I'm in shape, but I'm not in top shape now. It's been so cold that it has been difficult to train properly. I will try my best to run a good time.''
