Marion to Bermuda festivities continue at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club.

The around-the-Island race will begin at 11 a.m. with 46 boats, many of them part of the Marion to Bermuda race fleet. There will also be 14 local entries in the event.

The prize-giving ceremony for the Marion to Bermuda race will take place tomorrow night at the Hamilton Princess beginning at 5.30 p.m.

Kemancha , a Westsail 32 skippered by Donald Porter with Jim Hackett as navigator, was declared overall winner of the race on corrected time.

First to cross the finish line was Columbine , a Hylas 51 owned and sailed by Richard Leather of Denver, Colorado.

The first boats arrived in a flurry late on Tuesday night making this year's event one of the slowest on record.

Only one of the five Bermuda boats in the fleet of 75 finished in the top three of their classes with Marc David Finnegan's Crewcut grabbing third place in Class B.

Tonka , however, a Sigma 36 with captain Paul Hubbard at the helm, finished in the top third of the fleet.

Preliminary results from late yesterday put Tonka in a highly-respectable 19th position on corrected time of four days, four hours, two minutes and 40 seconds.

Finishing 35th overall was Finnegan's Crewcut . The Sigma 41 logged a corrected time of 4:06:33:49.

In 40th place was Scheherazade (4:06:57:10), a Baltic 37 sailed and owned by Leslie Swainson.

Colin Couper's Vivace , a Sabre 38, had a finish of 4:07:23:01 and was in 45th place.

Starr Trail , a Freedom 45 with Robert Mulderig at the helm, finished in 61st place with a time of 4:09:26:14.

Declared the winner in Class A was Veritas , a Custom 46, owned and sailed by Phillip Hutchison of Harwood, Maryland. Finishing second and third was Mandate and Columbine .

Class B champion was Swift , an NA 44, captained by Gary Huss. Lively was second while Crewcut was third.

Crackerjack , a Cambria 40 sailed by Alan Krulisch of Arlington, Virginia, was top boat in Class C, followed by Acadian Orca and Darkstar .

Mike Rouzee's North Star , a Crealock 44, was the winner of Class D while Concert and Shooting Star finished second and third respectively.

Xapeima , a Pearson 424 sailed by Robert Welsh, jr., was the champion in Class E. In second place was Windborne and third Next Boat .

Fleet champion Kemancha led all boats in Class F with Ron Noonan's Wildflower in second place and Majek in third.

Spinache , an Island Packet 35 sailed by James Lawless, was the focus of a hearing late yesterday. Lawless informed the racing committee that his crew helped a boat on their way to Bermuda. If the committee rules in favour of Lawless, Spinache could climb from their current position of fifth place in the standings.

Panama Red , a Benateau 42 skippered by Wilkinson Marvel, lost their hearing yesterday when they attempted to be added to the fleet despite their withdrawal on Friday after a broken boom. When the boom was quickly repaired Panama Red resumed their trip to Bermuda, hoping to be welcomed back.

FINNEGAN'S RAINBOW -- David Marc Finnegan was all smiles after learning that his boat Crewcut had finished third in Class B of the Marion to Bermuda race.
