Marshall hammers St. David's for 171

Charlie Marshall hammered a career-best 171 not out to lead St. George's to a 162-run win over a depleted St. David's Select side at Wellington Oval on Saturday.

St. David's, who were using this match as a tune-up the next week's Eastern Counties first round, were woefully unprepared and needed to borrow Clay Smith and Glenn Smith from St. George's just to make up 10 players.

Marshall made them pay in spades with a dominant performance that yielded 25 fours and eight sixes.

The St. David's Select looked to be in a good position after St. George's were 60 for three with Cup Match hopeful Lionel Cann grabbing two of the wickets.

But that was it for him as he eventually went for 104 runs in 18.3 overs, Marshall and Dean Minors (33 not out) feasting on his second spell.

Minors and Marshall put on 121 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket with the former hitting three sixes and a four.

Ricky Hodsoll struck five fours in his 31.

Herbie Bascome entertained in an innings of 28 at opening bat and Cann struck a lively 32 but there was little else for the St. David's Select to cheer about.

Bascome hit four fours and a six and Cann, who struck the first ball he faced for six, finished with four fours and two sixes.

Clay and Glenn Smith combined for seven runs, Graham Fox bowling the former with a slower ball while Eugene Foggo trapped the latter without scoring.

Foggo claimed three for 15 from nine overs and David Adams two for 24 from nine overs.
