Rangers rally to earn berth in semi-final

advanced to the semi-finals of their respective Commercial Division League Cup competitions following action on Wednesday night.

Producing the most entertainment for the small crowd on hand were Rangers in Group A, who were forced to come from behind against Forties, eventually earning a 2-2 draw. That was sufficient to put them through to the semi-finals alongside Robin Hood, as Forties were eliminated.

Rangers had previously beaten Hood, who likewise defeated Forties in an earlier contest.

However, the men from Dockyard looked as they might not make it as they quickly fell behind 2-0 courtesy of goals by Forties' Derek Scott and Andy Robinson.

Hardworking midfielder Theron Smith pulled Rangers back within a single strike before the half and it was left to Wendell (Nipper) Anderson to equalise, poking home the rebound from a Troy Berkeley free kick 10 minutes from time.

Meanwhile, the nightcap between the two All-Star outfits of Group B failed to produce a goal with neither able to find their scoring touch.

St. George's advanced on the basis of two draws -- Wednesday's and an earlier 3-3 tie with other group team North Village Rams -- while Devonshire defeated Rams in their first match.
