Southampton 3 Port Royal 2
fight as Port Royal nearly sprung an upset at Southampton Oval yesterday.
A see-saw affair saw Rangers grab the lead twice only to have the visitors storm back and equalise. However, a late strike by Alfred (Buster) Wolffe assured victory for the leaders, their fifth in as many matches.
Craig Darrell had put Rangers in front with a first half goal, but that was erased by the first of two second half strikes by Port Royal's Winston Thomas.
Herbie Dillas restored the lead moments later, but Thomas again tied it to set the stage for Wolffe's late heroics.
Prospect 4 Social Club 4 Social Club suffered a major second half collapse, allowing a three goal advantage to slip against never-say-die Prospect at Police Field.
Social Club took the lead through Jamal Lewis in the 22nd minute before Trent Lightbourne equalised three minutes from the interval.
However, the Bluebirds came out storming after the break and took a 4-1 lead with goals from Troy Saunders (48th), Melvin Bowen (50th) and a Shawn Laws penalty (55th).
Prospect, though, had the answers with Cal Smith (60th minute), Dennis Archer (87th minute) and an 89th minute 20-yard thunderbolt by Andrew Rawlins earning them a share of the spoils.
Both teams had players sent off by referee Orel Swan, with Robert Goodchild of Prospect ejected for swearing, and Saunders dismissed for violent conduct.
Somerset Eagles 3 Paget 1 Somerset Eagles, still smarting from a shock loss in the FA Cup last week, got well quickly with this victory over visiting Paget.
Initially, however, it appeared as if another upset might be on the cards as they trailed at the half to a Dean Ming strike.
But the second half saw Eddie Callendar score twice and Frank Smith once to assure Eagles of second place in the table and within a point of leaders Southampton.
Eagles finished with 10 men after Everett Wellman received his marching orders.
St. David's 1 Wolves 1 Wolves came close to leaving St. David's with both points as two of the youngest teams in the division locked horns in this promotion battle.
Wolves, who went close to breaking the deadlock in the closing minutes of the half when a free kick went untouched across goal and inches past the far post, finally broke the deadlock three minutes after the restart when Shannon Tuzo scored.
St. David's, still unbeaten after six matches but with only one win, picked up their fifth draw when Shea Pitcher scored in the 74th minute from an indirect free kick inside the penalty area.
