Stars book ticket in final

Devonshire 93-7 Champions Western Stars reached the final of the Central Counties Cup with little trouble, beating Devonshire Rec. by 30 runs in a rain-affected match at St. John's Field on Saturday.

Stars posted 209-8 in their reduced innings which lasted 40 overs, Andre Manders leading the way with 64 and opener Gregory Sampson scoring 31.

A second wicket stand of 53 between Sampson and Manders laid the foundation for Stars' total.

Anthony Amory was the best bowler for the challengers with three for 60 off 10 overs while Trott and Erskine Smith both picked up one each.

Anthony Edwards returned from a brief retirement and finished wicketless from 10 overs which yielded 29 runs, the most economical of the five bowlers used by Devonshire.

Devonshire's target was reduced to 122 in 23 overs but that proved beyond them as they were restricted to 93-7 by the time the overs ran out. High men were opener Lloyd Smith with 23, Winston Trott with 22 and Wendell Swan with 21 as brothers Allan and Gary Brangman claimed five of the seven wickets.

Allan finished with two for 35 off 10 overs with Gary taking three for 37 from his 10 overs while Arnold Manders returned one for 14 from two overs. Stars will now meet Police in the final.
