Trojans crash again after promising start
Somerset crashed to defeat despite taking an early lead with former player Reggie Tucker helping to sink them with the third Dandy Town goal on Saturday night.
And while the win may not be enough to help second-placed Town win a third league title, the Trojans did slip a place down the standings with Devonshire Colts moving ahead of them. Fortunately for the Trojans, second-from-bottom Devonshire Cougars also lost to remain seven points behind with three games left.
Somerset enjoyed a promising start, scoring in the 12th minute, having earlier had appeals for a penalty ignored when the ball hopped up and appeared to strike Dano Outerbridge on the hand.
A goalkeeping error created the opportunity, Antoine Lightbourne picking up a back pass to give away a free-kick in the box. Despite Town lining the goal-line with all their players, Karl Roberts still found a way through as his shot went in off McLee Smith's legs.
But the lead was shortlived as Town equalised a minute later when Smith scored with a low shot inside the box.
Town took over after that as a shot from 25 yards from Wolde Place brought a good save from Keenan Tucker who tipped the ball over the bar.
The visitors then had two more chances in the space of a minute. First Seyoum Tuzo broke through and hit a weak shot at the near post and then a ball reached Darron Simons at the far post only for his effort to go over the bar.
Town went in front for the first time eight minutes into the second half when Smith's corner was backheaded by Reggie Tucker for Devarr Boyles to volley in at the far post.
Michael Brangman was brought on to boost the Trojans front line and within minutes he let fly with a shot that produced a good save from Lightbourne.
In the 77th minute Somerset fell further behind when Town were awarded a penalty after Place was fouled in the box.
Tucker blocked Dano Outerbridge's spot kick but his namesake Reggie followed up to plant home the rebound.
Substitute Kevin Hurdle, who came on in the last two minutes, should have added a fourth goal for Town right on full-time. He followed up Simons' shot which hit the far post but put his effort straight at a relieved Tucker from close range.
