Under-23 request angers Colts
players to withdraw from next Tuesday night's Friendship Trophy clash against Dandy Town has angered Devonshire Colts.
Trott could not be reached for comment last night, but it is understood that the request was made in order to protect the players from possible injury which could rule them out of the Pan Am qualifying round tie against Canada in Jamaica on December 2 and 4.
Colts were upset last night when the players informed them at a training session of Trott's decision. The players are Makonnen Hollis, Keishon Smith, Jahmal Samuels and Marvin Lewis.
David Furbert, Colts assistant coach, reacted strongly to the request, saying that the club would immediately ask the BFA to postpone the Friendship game.
The four players informed Colts that if they were chosen as members of the touring squad on Monday they would be asked to be made "unavailable'' for Tuesday's game.
"We didn't like to be informed like this, it just wasn't right. No prior notification was made by our association at all,'' said Furbert.
He said on October 22 when two BAA members of the Under-23s were unavailable for a game against Devonshire Cougars the BFA postponed the match for a couple of days. Colts, he insisted, should be given similar consideration.
Word is that the BFA are considering making a formal request for all Under-23 teams members to be withdrawn from their club teams on Sunday, November 27, for the same reason.
