Village denied as sub Douglas fires late goal
North Village lost further ground in the race for the First Division championship as Colts' substitute Romond Douglas's late equaliser denied them all three points at Bernard Park.
Douglas, a 70th minute replacement for Derek Wright, dived low to head in from close range ten minutes from time after fellow substitute Raymond Jones' shot had come bouncing through a crowd of players.
Douglas's effort meant Village have taken just one point from a possible last six and leaves them trailing leaders Vasco by five points.
It came just four minutes after Village, who fell behind to a second minute Jerome Laws strike, had seemingly rescued the match through Kaiwon Dill.
Dill, who had also only been on the pitch a matter of minutes, arrived late on the scene to slot home after the hard-working Elliott Jennings had cut the ball invitingly back across the area.
Dill will have been relieved, having moments earlier missed a great opportunity to score, dwelling too long on the ball after Sergio Goater had set him up 12 yards from goal.
That had seemed to sum up Village's afternoon, as wasteful finishing and the defensive colossos of national team skipper Shannon Burgess had stood between them and a hatful once they had shaken off the shock of falling behind to an early goal of great simplicity.
With just 90 seconds on the clock, Troy Hall ventured 40 yards from his goal to take a regulation free kick. He humped it forward and watched delighted as Laws glided through a static Village rearguard to touch past Shervin Jennings.
A nervy Village survived two further scares before the speed and skills of Neil Robinson and Elliott Jennings began to suggest Colts were in for a more testing afternoon.
First, neat interplay between Marvin Belboda and Wright carved out an opening for Tito Smith, who saw a powerful left foot shot blocked. Then, centre back Peter Mahoney nearly scored a freak own goal when Rahji Edness hacked the ball off his own line and cracked it against the back of Mahoney's head on the six-yard line.
Fortunately for both the ball rebounded a yard wide for a corner.
Village settled and began to enjoy greater possession but Hall had barely been troubled when the home side equalised in the 35th minute.
Elliott Jennings was at the centre of things again, outpacing Nathan Samuels on the left and crossing low to the far post where Sergio Goater, initially surprised to find he had so much time and space, recovered his composure to net from three yards.

Just when it looked as though the sides would share the spoils, Trojans' left full back Mike Nisbett pulled down substitute Otis Minors to clear the way for Boyles, who had a superb game in midfield, to stroke home the goal that clinched it.
For the longest period neither team had looked capable of scoring with defences dominating as attacks and counter attacks petered out once play reached the penalty area.
Shots on goal were few and far between with Boulevard's skipper and centre back Leroy Stevens marshalling his defence well and Trojans skipper Karl Roberts, also at centre back, playing a similar role for his side.
Somerset had the best chances of the quiet opening half after 30 minutes with Jelani Scott poorly striking a ball wide of the post from just eight yards after Andrew Rahman provided the opening.
Earlier Boulevard's Stevie Wade gave them their best effort, firing an angled shot from close in on the right that goalkeeper Keenan Tucker saved.
It was some brilliant goalkeeping by Tucker in the second half that kept the visitors in the game, denying Wade from scoring on four occasions.
While Wade kept Tucker busy in the Trojans half, the visitors managed only isolated assaults, their closest coming when Michael Brangman put a shot into Mitchell Steede's chest after 55 minutes and substitute Nasir Wade has his shot saved after 82 minutes.

Southampton 0 Dandy Town 0 Dandy Town found the going difficult against a stubborn Rangers side as both had to settle for this slatemate yesterday.
Rangers' attack certainly missed the punch of Craig Darrell, Kwame Tucker and Janeiro Tucker who were all absent.
Rangers, Town in stalemate From Page 25 But while Town looked the more dangerous, with Seyoum Tuzo twice being denied from close range in the first 20 minutes, they too struggled up front.
Rangers failed to capitalise in the 21st minute from a corner when Donnie Charles cleverly flicked on with his head only to see the ball bounce between Oscar Riley and Dawud Tucker.
Rangers' keeper Randy Darrell was called into action early in the second half when Dano Outerbridge unleashed a fierce 25 yard free kick.
And in a moment of controversy in the 60th minute, Town were nearly awarded a penalty when referee Calvin Simons initially pointed to the spot after a challenge on Darren Simons. But after consulting his linesman he awarded a free kick from just outside the 18 yard box.
The best, however, was saved for last as Town substitute Kevin Hurdle collected the ball cleanly in the 89th minute and in one smooth move turned and drilled a wicked 25 yard missile which crashed off the upright with keeper Darrell watching.
