Bermudians honoured

Lindsey Sims, a senior, received a letter in Varsity golf as well as winning the Outstanding Golfer Award. Sims is the daughter of Bruce and Carol Sims of Southampton.

Seamus Durkin, a senior, also received a letter in Varsity golf. He is the co-captain of the team. Durkin is the son of Ralph and Mary Kay Terceira of Flatts.

Sophomore Benjamin Pewter and John Singleton, a senior, received letters in Varsity tennis. Pewter is the son of Ruth Kempe of Pembroke and Graham Pewter of Hamilton, while Singleton is the son of Derek and Sallie Singleton of Southampton.

Melody Smith, a senior, received a letter in Varsity boys lacrosse for her work as manager of the team. She is the daughter of Sally Smith of Warwick.

BROWN LEADS DINGHY FLEET SLG Brown leads dinghy fleet Husayn Brown regained form to top the Advanced Fleet in the final race of the fourth Optimist Dinghy Spring Series ahead of Jesse Kirkland and AJ Black on the weekend.

However, overall honours went to Kirkland who finished two points ahead of Black after 19 races. Alan Frith was a further five points back in third place. Frith was named the most improved advanced sailor.

In the final one-day regatta in the intermediate series, David Stanard narrowly edged Reid Selley with Geoffrey Smith placing third. Overall honours, after 18 races, went to Renae Black who was eight points ahead of Rajae Woods and Stanard. Selley was named most improved intermediate sailor.

In preparation for the 1999 World and US Championships, sailors will be coached this month by former Argentine national coach, Pablo Weber, and top US coach, Tom Coleman, before the summer programmes resume at White's Island and local sailing clubs.
