Bromby and White in top form ahead of Star Worlds

Saturday's World Star Championships in Spain when they finished sixth in the European Championships that concluded in Portugal over the weekend.

Entering the final day's racing in seventh place overall, the local duo finished 15th in the last race to wrap up a satisfying week among an elite fleet of 65 sailors.

Ross Macdonald of Canada, the 1992 Olympic bronze medallist and reigning world champion, won the regatta by finishing a point ahead of Michael Hestbaek of Denmark. Both Macdonald and Hestbaek had finished behind Bromby at the pre-Olympic regatta in Savannah, Georgia, last month.

Third place went to Rod Davis of New Zealand, a former Omega Gold Cup winner.

Behind the Bermudians in 14th place was 1992 Olympic gold medallist Mark Reynolds.

At this week's Worlds, Bromby and White are expected to compete against an even stronger fleet of at least 90 boats. They plan to return to Bermuda after the regatta before embarking on another trip in their build-up to next year's Olympics for which they have already qualified.
